Solar is a radically different approach to leasing, installment credit administration and accounting. Based on Microsoft’s .NET V2™ platform it is totally web native with configurable financial products and accounting accessing a Microsoft SQL Server 2005™ database. This enables rapid tailoring to new fiscal regimes whilst retaining a common processing core.

Solar can be accessed over the Internet using a standard browser. For security purposes this will usually be via a VPN (Virtual Private Network) but some modules may be offered to third parties such as brokers, vendor partners and even customers. In addition, language resource files enable Solar to be used in any language simply by accessing a culture menu. Solar thus offers the opportunity to improve the whole business process and to offer better service to partners and customers.

At Copernicus we are also aware that the way that the leasing and installment credit business is conducted is changing. Solar enables changes to be made readily in response to changed circumstances and to integrate it readily with other systems such as General Ledger or CRM.

New channels may be introduced quickly including those offered by mobile Internet access.

To date parts of Solar have been used by a major financial institution to process IAS accounting for over 900,000 agreements and to provide comparative reports with existing GAAP calculations. Cash flows, P&L and Balance Sheet reports may be generated in a browser on demand along with the XML which defines Solar calculations, thus enabling users to determine exactly what assumptions have been made. Thus, Solar is capable of handling very large volumes whilst enabling rapid drill down to individual agreement cash flows and postings.

Using the user defined functionality of Solar you can expand the core database to include any data that is relevant to your business. For example, vehicle agreements might have details of colour, trim, accessories and so on, whilst agricultural customers will need to store details on acreages, livestock and crops. All data changes are recorded and a full audit trail by user is available on any field in the database enabling full control of the portfolio.
